In spite of the iconic sheet-metal and neon kitchens you've seen in telivision and movies, the actual history of the restaurant actually goes back to the year 872, yes, "872" where the Melrose Café was originally set in the historic center of Agde, and was adjoined to the Saint Etienne cathedral (Also built in 872) which gave its nickname to the city of Agde, "The black pearl of the Mediterranean."
Formerly a palace of bishops, a part of the original Melrose Café is now a cathedral and is listed as a historic monument; the basalt arches overlooking the river Hérault.
To many modern day Agathois, the Melrose Café is better known as the "Galiote bar." But in the flashy years, the whole body of the building was one. Now under the impetus of Mr Jules Boudou the Avant-Garde hotel complex was structured around it, with a hotel "La Galiote", a restaurant, a reception room, a bar and a dance hall, (And is today an adult nightclub called, "Quai des Anges.")
Many baptisms, communions and weddings took place between these centuries-old walls for over 1000 years!
Today these classic neighborhood diners and cafes serve a variety of delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner options as well as late night dishes. Still surviving, the cafe's have been cultural staples for over a thousand years. Serving neighborhoods across the UK, the US, Asia Pacific and in Canada.
Lunch truck franchises are also now among our fleet of store models!
